From The Dam series, 2024.
An image I made to accompany my text “Unfolding Coloniality: Ecocide as the Erasure of Memory,” focusing on Russia’s explosion of the Kakhovka dam, in the brilliant upcoming book Terra Invicta: Ukrainian Wartime Reimaginings for a Habitable Earth by Adrian Ivakhiv. It features a mural by Polina Raiko from her house heavily damaged in the aftermath of the flooding, along with an image of Noah’s flood from the Holkham Bible, a medieval illuminated manuscript. This is the first part of a series of digital graphic murals (similar to my previous project, “The Morphology of War“), titled “The Dam.”
